Moto Polisemico
May 28th, 2008

Moto Polisemico is the title of the outdoor installation I presented as student with other colleagues in 2006. The installation was part of the exhibition “Migrazioni in Piazza“ in Piazza Lorenzo Ghiberti in Florence.
Moto Polisemico is a social experiment where people were interacting with the installation through the shadows generated by their bodies.
We did a big projection (12 x 3 m) on one of the sides of the square. People were walking in front of the projection generating big shadows on the opposite wall. The projection was just white light for most of the time, working as a source of light to cast shadows. But from time to time, random pre-recorded (and generally crazy) shadows were added to the projection. These were visually mixed with the shadows of the people walking on the square, creating an interesting effect and very curious reactions from the interactive audience.
Children were particularly interested and had fun finding different ways to play with the installation.
